What do you do if your do not have an unlimited budget but your bathroom has not been updated in years or it doesn't fit in with the rest of the house or you simply just hate it. Have you though about remodeling it on a budget. It is amazing how a small amount of money spent can transform a shabby bathroom into a place of relaxation and usefulness.

One of the quickest and cheapest ways to transform a bathroom is to give it a new paint job. It is time consuming to prepare your bathroom because of the scraping, sanding etc you have to do to achieve a good job but it is important that you do not skimp here. Because of the amount of moisture in a bathroom it will soon compromise the integrity of your work and the bathroom may look just as bad as it does now. Adding a mirror or second mirror is an old trick that bathroom designer use to make a bathroom look bigger and any extra light reflecting from it into the room sometimes creates the right atmosphere. This option can be a great alternative to replacing a light fixture
Buying used items can save you money, now you are probably thinking that the bathroom will look the same. That does not have to be the case look for items like vanities and bathtubs plumbing fixtures that may only be a couple of year old but are still in good condition,
Change the pluming fixtures, changing a shower head or faucet can work wonders. Most faucets can be installed with a wrench and a screwdriver.

Just make sure you get one similar to one you have already. If you have a single valve (one handle), you've got to stick with a single valve design. This is because different styles may require different plumbing. Use Teflon tape to seal your joints. Or if you do not feel you can do it, pay a little bit to get a professional in to do it for you

Replacing the decorative fixtures like Towel racks, soap dishes. These can be replaced by anyone because most are just held by screws or sit free standing.

Accent your bathroom with new towels, ornaments, pictures on the wall. Things like this are great because if you can change them every so often and freshen up the bathroom.
Separately each of these things should not cost to much but when you add them together it will add up, so you may want to do it in stages. The important thing to remember if you do this is to plan it in the beginning, its not good replacing a something then having to remove it so you can paint the room two months later.
