Now is a great time to remodel your bathroom. As we all know, the housing market is suffering a slump currently. This is unfortunate, but it will not last forever. If your bath is a little lack luster, why not take this time to remodel?
If you were planning to sell and upgrade, or sell to buy a smaller home this is a good time to get your house in order. By remodeling now, you will have the benefit of enjoying your new bath for a time, and your house will be more salable when the market recovers, and possibly raise it's value at the same time.
Since we use our bathrooms a lot these days, it only makes sense to make it a pleasant space to do our daily grooming, or to enjoy a relaxing bath at the end of the day. The kitchen and bathroom are the two most scrutinized rooms when folks are shopping for a home, and can make or break a sale.
Where do you start with a bathroom remodel?
Good planning is the very first and most important step. Where is your bathroom lacking?
Bathtubs usually last a very long time. If your tub is in good shape, maybe just updating the surround will give it a clean and updated look. Or if it is a tub/shower combination, possibly replacing the shower doors will give it just the lift and updated look it needs.
What is the condition of your vanity? If the supporting cabinet is in good shape, maybe just adding a new top with new sink and faucets will refresh the appearance. Another idea would be to consider a vessel sink instead of a standard bathroom basin. This will add a fresh new appearance, and definitely give it a now look.
When replacing faucets, consider the satin or brushed look. Homeowners today are getting away from both gold fixtures, and the very shiny look. A finish such as a brushed nickel will give a very updated appearance, and is much easier to maintain on a daily basis.
Give your bathroom a good scan. Does it need a full remodel, or does it just need a few updates? Granite counter tops, updated faucets, and possibly new vanity lighting can go a long way in improving the look and salable quality of your bath.
You will have the advantage of enjoying your newly remodeled bath, and when the market changes, you will have much less to do in making your house ready for the market.
